Rumah Gadang Budi
Rumah Gadang Budi is a symbol of traditional Minangkabau architecture that remains well-preserved in Negeri Sembilan. Located in Kampung Gagu, it represents the culture of Adat Perpatih and the refined craftsmanship of local heritage.
Owned by national figure Dato’ Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim and managed by Yayasan Budi, the house was built to commemorate the Minangkabau architectural legacy, which is deeply rooted in cultural values and the history of the local community.
Its uniqueness lies in its nail-free construction technique, using durable local hardwood joined with traditional interlocking and pegging methods. This makes the structure strong while preserving the authenticity of traditional craftsmanship.
The most iconic feature is its ‘gonjong’ roof, shaped like buffalo horns, while the interior layout follows the principles of Adat Perpatih, reflecting the family-oriented lifestyle of the Minangkabau community.
Set against the lush greenery of Kampung Gagu, Rumah Gadang Budi now stands as a heritage icon of Negeri Sembilan. It is not only a tourist attraction but also a reference point for cultural researchers, students, and enthusiasts of traditional architecture.
