Bendul Recreational Forest
Ulu Bendul, a place rich in natural beauty and historical value, is also known for a myth passed down through generations by the local community. Long ago, the Terachi River was said to have deep and wide currents, large enough for boats to travel back and forth, serving as the main transportation route for villagers.
However, according to the elders, there was an extraordinary incident that gave rise to the name “Ulu Bendul.” It is said that a boat once collided with a large rock hidden beneath the river. The impact caused the boat to break apart, and a crucial part of the boat known as the “bendul” — a wooden crossbeam at the bottom of the boat — was left behind in that part of the river.
Since the incident occurred upstream from the village, the place came to be known as Ulu Bendul, referring to “the upstream where the boat’s bendul broke.”
